Tennessee’s New Canna-Pub, Amazon’s Fight Against Unionization, & 420 Deals

Tennessee’s first cannabis-infused eatery is coming to Nashville, Amazon is fighting unionization with questionable claims, and companies are releasing some hot deals for this year’s 4/20.

Let’s dive into this week’s cannanews.

Tennessee to Open First Legal Cannabis Restaurant

Get ready, Nashville! Residents of Music City will soon be able to grab a bite at Tennessee’s first legal cannabis restaurant.

Buds & Brews—the brainchild of cannabis industry veteran Michael Solomon—is set to open later this spring. The American sports-themed eatery will offer a number of classic dishes with a canna-twist.

Rather than directly infusing the food, however, Solomon has instead opted to let the customer decide how much THC they want in their food. “We took the 25 most commonly used condiments, and we infused all of them,” Solomon said. By doing this, Solomon hopes his restaurant will be a hit among experienced and first-time cannabis connoisseurs alike.

Beyond their entree menu of burgers, chicken wings, and fries, Buds & Brews will also offer a wide selection of infused alcoholic beverages and dessert edibles.

Bud & Brews will be located in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood. Patrons will need to be 21 and older to enter. According to Solomon, the bar should be open by the beginning of May.

Amazon Fights Unionization With Faulty Cannabis Claims

Earlier this month, workers at Staten Island’s JFK8 warehouse voted to join the Amazon Labor Union (ALU). The historic vote was a major win for union organizers who have been working hard to secure higher wages, longer breaks, and paid sick leave, among other demands.

The newly formed ALU’s celebration may not last long, however, as Amazon is now doing everything in its power to overturn the vote.

Last Friday, Amazon filed more than two dozen objections against the ALU alleging the organization used illegal methods to get workers to vote in favor of unionization. One of Amazon’s objections claims that ALU organizers distributed cannabis to workers before the vote in an effort to garner support.

For the record, recreational cannabis use has been legal for all New Yorkers aged 21 and up since 2021. That means that the organizers giving out cannabis is “no different than distributing free t-shirts and it certainly did not act to interfere with the election,” said ALU lawyer Eric Milner.

What do you think about Amazon’s claims against the ALU? Do you think that Amazon will succeed in getting a revote? Let us know in the comments!
