Police in New Port Richey, Florida have busted a drug operation they say was packaging marijuana to look like candy that resembles Reese’s Pieces and Oreos among others. It’s deemed as the weed candy bust in Florida. The man behind these actions was Louis Serball III who packaged nearly 150 marijuana candies, likely for sale. The concentrated chemicals of marijuana—the THC—found in the candies are so great, reports say, that it could cause an overdose. Serball was charged with marijuana possession, and is said to have admitted to making the products.
Dep. Chief Steve Kostas talked about the weed candy bust in Florida and mentioned Serball could have easily sold these products to a number of adults before the bust. These buyers could have children, get distracted, leave the candy on the table, and if the child sees the candy on the table will mistake it for normal candy, pick it up, and try to consume it. Police also found 50 grams of leafy marijuana at Serball’s residence, but couldn’t estimate how much Serball’s weed candy could make on the street.
