This bill was advanced out of a House subcommittee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If passed, \u201cvaporizable dried raw cannabis\u201d would be included with the products available to Iowa\u2019s medical patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iowa\u2019s medical cannabis program is one of the most limited throughout the country. Currently, the program only allows for tablets, capsules, liquids, topicals, vaporizable products (not raw flower), and suppositories.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Companies &amp; Iowa Patients Are Hopeful For Change<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lucas Nelson, president of MedPharm Iowa, owns and operates Bud &amp; Mary\u2019s Cannabis in the state. Bud &amp; Mary\u2019s is one of two licensed medical cannabis manufacturers in Iowa. Nelson said in a statement that if the bill passes, the company will commit to lowering patient product costs by an estimated 50%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He told the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/01\/28\/iowa-legislature-bill-would-add-vaporized-flower-to-medical-cannabis-marijuana-product-list\/77971464007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Des Moines Register<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cThis lowering of the costs matters for people. There\u2019s a patient who visits us from just outside of Ottumwa. She suffers from chronic pain, as you mentioned. She can\u2019t use insurance because insurance doesn\u2019t cover medical cannabis, and hers, specifically, she uses these products to be present for her grandkids.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many Iowa residents have an interest in becoming <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.veriheal.com\/blog\/protecting-your-privacy-hipaa-and-medical-cannabis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">medical cannabis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> patients. Many struggle with the initial medical card fees and the high price of products. If this bill is passed, the crime would be a misdemeanor with a fine of $260.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senate File 46 would expand access to medical cannabis for Iowans.
