By then, some of the general population in the US and around the world had long traditionally used cannabis for both recreation and medicinal purposes, as mentioned in media since the 1840s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Growing anti-immigrant sentiment from economic decline sparked racially charged rumors, labeling cannabis as a &#8220;dangerous foreign drug&#8221; and linking it to violent crime, which fueled fear among Americans. T<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his poses an issue with false information about cannabis flooding the internet instead of resources for fact-based cannabis education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article and those similar to it also rely on fear-based rhetoric and selective data to push their anti-cannabis agenda, misrepresenting science and the effects of cannabis legalization. The article also exaggerates the dangers of cannabis by stating cannabis increases psychosis and emergency room visits, without acknowledging that these trends are often due to improved reporting and higher overall use\u2014not because cannabis has suddenly become more harmful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, research from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalacademies.org\/based-on-science\/cannabis-the-relationship-between-cannabis-use-and-schizophrenia-is-complex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Academies of Sciences has found no definitive cause-and-effect link between cannabis use and schizophrenia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which undermines another of the article\u2019s core claims. Many with the condition coincidentally use cannabis, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC3316151\/#:~:text=Abstract,treatment%20of%20schizophrenia.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">better yet CBD<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particularly to help alleviate particular symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The article fuels unnecessary panic about youth cannabis use, even though studies show no significant increase\u2014and in many cases, a decrease\u2014in teen consumption after legalization, as regulated dispensaries replace unlicensed dealers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also misrepresents medical marijuana by claiming companies make false health claims. However, it ignores the fact that FDA-approved cannabis-based medications like Epidiolex already exist. Ironically, rescheduling cannabis to Schedule III would introduce more regulation, tackling many of the concerns raised in the article.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Comparing cannabis to \u201cBig Tobacco\u201d and \u201cBig Alcohol\u201d is also misleading to readers.
