As cannabis legalization has expanded and smoking has become less stigmatized, tons of celebrities have opened up about their marijuana use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stars like Morgan Freeman and Seth Rogen have become outspoken <\/span>cannabis advocates<\/span><\/a>, and others like Wiz Khalifa and Willie Nelson have even launched their own <\/span>cannabis brands<\/span><\/a>. But celebrities aren\u2019t just touting cannabis for its recreational uses. There\u2019s a whole subset who are also open about how they\u2019ve used the plant medicinally and therapeutically.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many patients and healthcare providers recognize cannabis as a treatment for various medical conditions. Although state laws differ on which disorders qualify for medical use, common approved conditions include chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and HIV\/AIDS. Cannabis-assisted therapy has also become increasingly popular in recent years for treating mental health conditions like anxiety, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder.<\/span><\/p>\n

From these conditions to many, many more, here are TK celebrities who are open about their use of cannabis in the treatment of various medical and mental health conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whoopi Goldberg has been hard at work since she broke onto the scene in the early \u201880s. An Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winner and the recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for Humor, there\u2019s a good chance you\u2019ve seen her in something over the years, whether it\u2019s as Sister Mary Clarence in \u201cSister Act\u201d or as a co-host of the daytime talk show \u201cThe View.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

However, not many people know that the actor and TV personality suffers from <\/span>glaucoma<\/span><\/a>, a disease that damages the eye\u2019s optic nerve and can eventually lead to blindness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a column for The Denver Post\u2019s former cannabis-focused website, <\/span>The Cannabist<\/span><\/a>, Goldberg opened up about how marijuana helped her manage her condition.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe vape pen has changed my life,\u201d Goldberg wrote. \u201cNo, I\u2019m not exaggerating\u2026 with each sip comes relief \u2014 from pressure, pain, stress, discomfort.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For Goldberg, her glaucoma-induced headaches \u201ccome on like freight trains.\u201d Vaping, she said, helps \u201crelax\u201d and \u201ccalm\u201d everything, allowing her to retain some semblance of a normal life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another highly decorated actor, Morgan Freeman\u2019s career has spanned six decades. Odds are you\u2019ve seen him in one of his 14 Oscar-nominated films, or heard his voice narrating documentaries like \u201cMarch of the Penguins\u201d or \u201cLife on Our Planet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2008, Freeman was in a car accident that left him with nerve damage in his left arm. Doctors were able to save the limb, but it left him with fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition that can cause intense pain and fatigue.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with the <\/span>Daily Beast<\/span><\/a>, the actor revealed that he smokes marijuana to help manage that pain. \u201cThe only thing that offers any relief is marijuana,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they\u2019ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, \u2018Legalize it across the board!\u2019\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While Oliver Stone isn\u2019t as widely recognized as Whoopi Goldberg or Morgan Freeman, he has built an undeniably accomplished career.. The mind behind films like \u201cPlatoon\u201d and \u201cBorn on the Fourth of July,\u201d his work is overtly political, extremely controversial, and often quite critical of the American government and its policies.<\/span><\/p>\n

That includes the federal government\u2019s stance on cannabis. In an interview with <\/span>The Hollywood Reporter<\/span><\/a>, Stone called it \u201cGod\u2019s gift\u201d and revealed that he\u2019d been smoking it on and off for his whole life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stone\u2019s appreciation for cannabis goes beyond its recreational uses, however. In an interview with <\/span>Film Comment<\/span><\/a>, he discussed how he used it regularly as a soldier in Vietnam and how he believes it was therapeutic in helping those deployed deal with the trauma of what they were experiencing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHalf the platoons were getting high\u2014not in the field, but in the back, and it made that whole experience survivable to a large degree. I don\u2019t think I would have kept my humanity without it. Getting high was an antidote to the madness we were surrounded by. I\u2019m very serious about that. The music and the dope,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an <\/span>interview<\/span><\/a> with a Boston news station, Tyson said, \u201c[Cannabis] is a part of my life, because I\u2019ve been in like nine psych wards\u2026 I started using pot a few years ago, and my whole life changed. I still have some scratches here and there. I wasn\u2019t perfect. Using cannabis only raises me to my highest potential.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Parkinson\u2019s is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement. Some of its primary symptoms are uncontrollable shaking and muscle stiffness.
