The Cannabis Project That's Breaking Barriers

Veriheal is partnering with Johns Hopkins University and Realm of Caring on one of the largest cannabis research studies to date. Called The National Cannabis Study, this research aims to advance the global understanding of medical cannabis through a multi-dimensional approach.

By focusing on real-world experiences and data, the study works to further cannabis education and inform clinical decision-making, product development, and public policy.

At Veriheal, we are committed to ensuring that every patient feels seen, heard, and supported on their personal wellness journey.

About Medical Marijuana In New Jersey

New Jersey recognizes a broad list of qualifying conditions under the Jake Honig Compassionate Use Medical Cannabis Act. Approved conditions include anxiety, cancer, chronic pain of visceral or musculoskeletal origin, Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, migraine, multiple sclerosis, opioid use disorder, and PTSD.

The list also covers ALS, dysmenorrhea, HIV/AIDS, inflammatory bowel disease, intractable skeletal muscular spasticity, muscular dystrophy, sickle cell anemia, Tourette syndrome, and terminal illness with a prognosis of less than 12 months.

Becoming a patient is a three-step process. Veriheal helps you book a telehealth appointment with a New Jersey physician registered with the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC), and once you are approved the physician submits your certification to the CRC registry.

You then log into the CRC patient portal, upload your New Jersey ID and photo, and complete your registration. Your digital card is free, a physical card costs $10, and most patients gain dispensary access within 7 to 14 days of certification.

Along with a qualifying condition, a patient must prove New Jersey residency with a New Jersey driver’s license or state-issued non-driver ID. New Jersey does not charge a state fee for a digital card, and a physical card costs $10 for a two-year term.

A caregiver can purchase and transport medical cannabis for a registered patient who cannot do so themselves. Each patient may designate up to two caregivers, and minor patients must have a designated caregiver, typically a parent or legal guardian.

A caregiver must be at least 18 years old, a New Jersey resident, and registered with the CRC. Caregivers must also pass a criminal background check, with limited exceptions for immediate family members.

New Jersey medical patients may purchase and possess up to 3 ounces of usable cannabis per 30-day period.

Patients with a terminal illness or a prognosis of 12 months or less have no purchase or possession cap, while recreational consumers are limited to 1 ounce per transaction.

Home cultivation is not permitted in New Jersey for medical patients or recreational consumers, so all cannabis must be purchased from a licensed Alternative Treatment Center (ATC).

To renew your New Jersey card through Veriheal, schedule a renewal appointment with one of our physicians who can confirm you still need medical cannabis for your qualifying condition. We remind you when renewal is near, and you can reach our Customer Service Department to apply a renewal discount.

A New Jersey medical marijuana card is valid for two years, but your physician certification must be renewed every year to keep dispensary access.

New Jersey recognizes the following qualifying conditions under the Jake Honig Compassionate Use Medical Cannabis Act: anxiety, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cancer, chronic pain of visceral origin, chronic pain related to musculoskeletal disorders, Crohn's disease, dysmenorrhea, epilepsy and other seizure disorders, glaucoma, inflammatory bowel disease, intractable skeletal muscular spasticity, migraine, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, opioid use disorder, positive HIV/AIDS status, PTSD, terminal illness (prognosis of less than 12 months), Tourette syndrome, and sickle cell anemia (added January 2026 under P.L. 2025 c.223).

Your New Jersey medical marijuana ID card is valid for 2 years from the date of issuance by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC). Your physician certification, however, must be renewed annually, with a telehealth visit every 12 months to confirm your qualifying condition, with the CRC-issued card refreshed every 24 months.

No. Home cultivation is not permitted in New Jersey for either medical patients or recreational users. All cannabis must be purchased from a licensed Alternative Treatment Center (ATC). Growing cannabis without a state license remains a criminal offense.

No. New Jersey permits telehealth evaluations for medical marijuana certification under N.J.S.A. 24:6I-5.1. Your entire Veriheal appointment is conducted via secure video call. No in-person visit required.

No. You can book directly with a Veriheal-affiliated New Jersey physician without a referral. All certifying physicians must be registered with the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, and Veriheal only works with providers who meet this requirement. You will need medical documentation (records or a prior diagnosis) for your qualifying condition, which your Veriheal physician will review during the consultation.

Your CRC-issued card is valid for 2 years, but your physician certification expires annually. To maintain uninterrupted dispensary access, book a new Veriheal telehealth appointment every 12 months for physician recertification. Every 24 months, you'll also refresh your card through the CRC portal (digital card free, physical card $10). Start recertification 30-45 days before your certification expires to avoid any gap in access.

Yes. New Jersey offers 6-month reciprocity for visitors holding a valid medical marijuana card from another state. During that window, out-of-state patients can purchase from NJ Alternative Treatment Centers (ATCs) under the medical program with their valid out-of-state medical card and a matching government-issued ID. After 6 months, you'll need to register directly with the CRC as a New Jersey patient to continue medical purchases.

Your initial consultation with a licensed New Jersey physician typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes. Once your physician submits your certification to the CRC registry, most patients complete their patient portal setup and gain dispensary access within 7-14 days. Digital cards are available almost immediately after CRC registration is approved.

Your New Jersey driver's license or state-issued non-driver ID is the primary proof of residency for the CRC registry. If the address on your ID is not current, you may need to provide supporting documentation such as a recent utility bill (within 90 days), a lease agreement, a mortgage statement, or a bank statement listing a New Jersey address. The CRC patient portal walks you through the exact documents accepted at registration.

A primary caregiver in New Jersey must be at least 18 years old, a New Jersey resident, and registered with the Cannabis Regulatory Commission. Each patient may designate up to two caregivers, and caregivers must pass a criminal background check (with limited exceptions for immediate family members and certain drug-related offenses that were reformed by 2019 legislation). Caregivers can purchase and transport medical cannabis on behalf of registered patients who are unable to do so themselves. Minor patients are required to have a designated caregiver, typically a parent or legal guardian.

New Jersey Alternative Treatment Centers (ATCs) offer a full range of medical cannabis products including dry flower, pre-rolls, vaporizer cartridges, oils and tinctures, capsules, edibles (lozenges, chocolates, and other approved formats), topicals, and concentrates. Medical patients receive priority access when ATCs experience supply constraints on the recreational side.

New Jersey medical marijuana patients can purchase and possess up to 3 ounces of usable cannabis per 30-day period. Patients with a terminal illness diagnosis or a prognosis of 12 months or less have no purchase or possession cap. Recreational users, by comparison, are limited to 1 ounce per transaction, which is one of several reasons a medical card retains real value even after recreational legalization.

Veriheal connects you with a licensed New Jersey physician registered with the Cannabis Regulatory Commission. All Veriheal-affiliated physicians are authorized to issue patient certifications through the CRC registry. You can meet with them online via secure video call and complete your certification without visiting a clinic in person.
