Jennifer Lawrence exploded onto the scene with her role in the big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games. Since then, Lawrence’s captivating performances and down-to-earth personality have made her one of the most recognizable and beloved actors of her generation.
While, Lawrence on-screen work has gotten the love it deserves — her status as a Stoner Icon, has not properly been celebrated.
Let’s look back at some of Jennifer Lawrence’s most iconic cannabis moments.
Birth of a Stoner Icon: The Joint Pic
Jennifer Lawerence’s foray into stoner stardom, coincidentally, took place the same year as her Hunger Games breakthrough. After months of interviews to promote the film, Lawrence unwinded on her balcony with some wine and what looked to be a joint. This simple moment of relaxation turned into a tabloid driven frenzy once pictures of the incident were uploaded across the web.

While this may not sound like a big deal to most of us in 2023 — remember that this took place in 2013. That year, only 7% of Americans admitted to smoking cannabis. It’s no surprise that the moment lead to months of discourse on the young star’s (perceived) lack of morals.
The Munchie Games
Speaking of TheHunger Games — did you know that Jennifer Lawrence’s co-stars are also big stoners? In a recent interview with the New York Times, Lawrence revealed that Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth frequently joined her for smoke sessions.
According to Lawrence, the trio would host these smoke sessions after Hunger Game movie premieres. “The boys and I would always go back to our hotel and just drink whiskey and get stoned,” Lawrence said. The smoke sessions, Lawrence shared, would help them blow off steam after an exhausting day of dealing with the press and paparazzi. Could one of these smoke sessions be behind Lawrence’s infamous 2013 picture?
J-Law’s Rapper Weed-Fueled Porta Potty Fight
Lawrence’s most absurd cannabis story comes from the 60th birthday party of comedian Ellen DeGeneres. What started as a celebration ended with Lawrence ‘fighting’ a woman over a porta potty.
Lawrence recalled the incident while appearing on The Howard Stern Show. The actor recalled feeling higher than usual after smoking a joint with a couple of rappers. Lawrence joked about the potency of the weed saying “their s*** is different” and that it transported her to a “different universe”.

Needing to use the restroom after the smoke sesh, Lawrence made her way to a porta potty. She arrived at the same time as another woman leading to an argument over who should go in first. After some back and forth — Lawrence entered the porta potty, but her stoned mind convinced her the woman needed to poop and just HAD go in first.
Lawrence jumped out of the porta potty to tell the woman that she should go first after all which is where things took a sharp turn. “All of a sudden security is grabbing me because what I hadn’t realized is I am grabbing this woman by the shoulders, shaking her, screaming, ‘You have to poop! You have to poop!’ Lawrence said.
Thankfully, the incident ended with everyone having a laugh. “[The security guard] and I are just on the ground laughing. And the woman finally started laughing, and I was just like, ‘Just poop,'” Lawrence added.
Don’t Smoke Up
For Jennifer Lawrence, smoking weed is more than just a way to unwind, it’s also a way to get into character.
During a preview screening for the Netflix movie Don’t Look Up, the actor admitted to getting high while on set. In the movie, Lawrence plays an astronomer who discovers a comet is hurdling towards earth. How does Lawrence’s character react to this? The way any self-respecting stoner would. By smoking the stress away!
Director Adam McKay said that Lawerence wanted to make one of her scenes more “authentic” by smoking a joint before filming. The scene featured no lines of dialogue from Lawrence, making it a perfect time to get high.
After lighting up, Lawrence’s cast mates trolled her — joking that they would pop in some lines of dialogue for her last minute. “Everyone was fucking with me. I guess because I was high. Easy to fuck with.” Lawrence said.
The Bong Days Are Over
So what exactly is our favorite cannabis icon up to these days? Unfortunately, it seems that the weed-queen’s smoking days are now behind her. In an an interview with the New York Times, Lawrence said “My mother-in-law’s going to love this. I don’t do it anymore, I’m a mom!”
While J-Law may have hung up her bongs and put away the dab pens — there’s no doubt that she’ll forever remain a cannabis icon in our hearts 💚

In a safe and perfect world, everyone who needs cannabis could go to a dispensary and buy safety-tested products from licensed producers. Unfortunately, we are far from living in a perfect world. Bongs are more than just glass pieces: they’re precision tools that shape every cannabis hit. Unlike other marijuana smoking methods like joints or pipes, bongs use water to cool and filter smoke. This process transforms hot, harsh inhales into smoother, tastier, more customizable draws. However, a bong’s size, along with its other features, plays a…
