A Guide to Hosting a Cannabis-Infused Dinner Party

When most people think about cannabis and food, their mind goes to classic “munchies”–chips, pizza, and candy. Don’t get us wrong; we love a marijuana and casual snacking combo, but the world of cannabis and dining is much bigger. Whether you’re looking to host an extra special birthday party, a celebratory dinner, or just a get-together that will majorly impress your friends, a cannabis-infused dinner party is the way to go.

For those who are both cannabis connoisseurs and at-home chefs, a cannabis-infused dinner party is a dream come true. We’ll show you how to pick all the right food and drinks, give you pairing recommendations, and more tips so that you can make it unforgettable.

Menu Ideas

A table set for dinner: Cannabis-Infused Dinner Party

One of the first things that you’ll have to do when it comes to planning your dinner party is create your menu. To make the experience really special and feel like a classic dinner party, you’ll want to serve multiple courses. An appetizer, entree, dessert, and drinks are a great place to start, but you could expand it even further for true fine dining.

Beginning with the appetizer, you may want to choose a salad for a light and refreshing start to the evening. Infusing the salad dressing with cannabis is probably the best way to do this. By making an infused olive oil, you can make a variety of dressings, from a classic balsamic vinaigrette to something more citrus-y to a creamy dressing.

For the entree, you may want to choose something more filling. A great option could be this cannabis-infused pesto pasta. Pesto is perfect for summer, and making your own pesto with fresh basil will make for an elevated crowd-favorite.

When it comes to cannabis-infused desserts, the classic is, of course, brownies. But since everyone is likely to expect it, you might want to choose something a bit more unique and complex. This olive oil citrus cake is an impressive and super summery option.

Finally, for drinks, you may wish to avoid alcohol. This will allow the cannabis to be the true star of the meal, and it will also help to keep things a bit more controlled by preventing the mixing of substances.

Luckily, there are lots of great recipes for cannabis-infused drinks. You can customize them by using fruits, herbs, and other ingredients that are in season, and you can serve them with special garnishes just like traditional cocktails to make things special. Using this THC syrup recipe is a great place to start.

How to Infuse Cannabis

To infuse the cannabis into your dishes, you have several different options.

One of the most versatile is a cannabis butter, which is very easy to make and can be made in different ways, including in a slow cooker or on the stove. You could use cannabutter to cook your entree or to bake your dessert.

Another option is a cannabis-infused oil. This can be integrated into a sauce, a dressing drizzled over a salad, or cooked with. This cannabis-infused coconut oil recipe is just one option.

Looking for a sweeter option? Make a THC-infused simple syrup. It’s perfect for beverages, and it will help you customize them perfectly.

Food and Strain Pairings

Now, let’s get more specific about the types of cannabis you may want to use. A great way to do this is by looking at the terpenes, or flavor profiles, of different strains, and then matching them to complementary dishes.

Limonene

As the name implies, this terpene is citrus-y! Pick a strain heavy on limonene to integrate into a citrus-heavy dish, or something more crisp and fresh.

Myrcene

Myrcene is an earthy, musky terpene, which makes it a perfect strain to integrate into rich, savory, or creamy main dishes.

Caryophyllene

A strain that’s heavy on caryophyllene may be more peppery and spicy. This makes it perfect for spicy dishes, as it will enhance the flavor and aromas.

Dosing

Beyond the menu, one of the most important things to get right when creating a cannabis dinner party is the dosing.

In contrast to just taking an edible, consuming cannabis through a full dinner course is a bit more complex to regulate, and it’s an experience in which guests will likely be consuming cannabis throughout multiple hours. By being intentional with your dosing, you can help to ensure a great experience.

For starters, you likely want to figure out the ideal dose per guest and then split up the dosage between the meals. This means that each dish will be lighter on the cannabis than a typical edible would be, because the THC is spread throughout the meal.

Final Considerations

Although it might take more work and planning than a typical dinner party, an incredible cannabis-infused dinner party will be well worth it. To keep things safe and enjoyable for your guests, you can let them know what is in each dish. A cute way to do this could be with handmade menu cards!

It could also be a good idea to make non-infused, regular versions of each dish. This can allow guests who want to abstain from cannabis during certain courses if they wish, while still getting a taste of everything.

Enjoy your dinner party!
