All you need to know about cannabis in New York

For starters, New York is ranked as the city that smokes the most weed in the world. No, it is not Los Angeles who burned the most cannabis in the world. Although LA was the fourth city that smoked the most weed in the world, NY citizens smoked twice as much. According to a recent study, people in LA smoked, vaped, swallowed 36.06 metric tons of cannabis last year, against 77.44 metric tons that were consumed in NY.

These numbers were accomplished mostly with the consumption of illegal cannabis. Even though there is a medical program in the state of New York, the state’s medical marijuana program doesn’t allow dispensaries to sell the dry flower, so all the smoke you see down the streets are being blazed illegally.

Where does this weed come from? The dominant retailers on the black market are the delivery services. The prices vary from $10 to $200 depending on what is being sold.

Most of the allegedly comes from California. The overabundance of products has made prices drop, and it has also made many growers seek compensation on the black market in other non-legal states. The delivery services in New York are becoming so familiar that there are even some services that have delivery apps in which you can schedule your delivery. Statistics vary, and the number of New Yorkers who smoke pot vaires between 8 and 12% of the city residents.

What about the medical cannabis? To get access to medical cannabis, you need to get your New York medical marijuana card. There are more than 1,600 certified doctors in NY’s program that can recommend you medical marijuana. What can you buy with your medical marijuana card? In New York, you can buy oils, vapor oils, tinctures, capsules, topical ointments and transdermal patches. The prices of cannabis products sold in the dispensaries are higher than those in the black market, and if you are starting to think about growing your weed at home, this is still illegal.

Where can you find dispensaries to buy legal cannabis? There are currently 20 dispensaries functioning in the state of New York. To help you with that, you can visit https://www.veriheal.com/dispensaries to find the nearest dispensary.

Since it was decriminalized in 1977, if you have up to 25 on you without being publicly visible, you committed a violation punished by a fine. But if you are smoking visible to the public, it is a misdemeanor, and you can face up to a year in jail. Smoking cannabis in NY City is supposedly a low-priority enforcement measure. However, 17,880 people were arrested in New York last year for a low-level pot offense.

When is recreational cannabis becoming legal in NY? Although there is no way to know, the Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo called for a study to examine the effects of marijuana legalization on the state. Some people say it was just a move for his attempt to become a president in 2020. A poll made by Emmerson College last year showed that 62% of registered voters in New York support full legalization of cannabis in the state.
