Cannabis Caviar Elevates Concentrates: When Green Goes Gourmet

Cannabis caviar is the latest trend sweeping the cannabis industry. As the industry continues to bud, we’re seeing ingenuity and innovation bud within it. New cannabis products and accessories that were scarce only years ago are available today. Cannabis concentrates are a great example of something easy to find that used to be a challenge. The hard thing with cannabis concentrates today is picking what type to buy.

Cannabis is big business. This still federally illegal plant generates billions of dollars a year in revenue. According to an article in Forbes, “The cannabis industry now supports 428,059 full-time equivalent jobs in the United States.” That’s not to mention all the accountants, engineers, plumbers, electricians, and other professional fields the cannabis industry employs. Just look at the impressive numbers fueling the fire sparking a multi-billion dollar industry:

  • In 2022, the legal rec/adult-use/retail cannabis sales in the U.S. achieved the $21.1 billion mark.
  • MJBiz predicts legal cannabis sales to reach $33.5 billion in 2023.
  • The Brightfield Group says they expect the legal cannabis market to achieve more than $31.8 billion in annual sales by the end of the year.
  • Despite a federal government stuck in the past, the United States is forecasted to generate 81% of global cannabis sales.
  • Revenue created by the legal cannabis industry is predicted to hit $51.28 billion this year.
  • The legal cannabis industry is set to see sales of nearly $57 billion by as early as 2028.

Would you like shatter, badder, budder, wax, crumble, isolate, distillate, sauce, diamonds, or jam? Do you prefer solvent or solventless cannabis concentrates? Do you love butane honey oil (BHO), or is supercritical CO2 extraction more your thing? What about rosin or live resin? There’s also ice water extraction. As you can see, there are many options these days when it comes to concentrates alone. A product that people are starting to love is a combination of concentrates and buds, often called moonrocks or cannabis caviar.

What’s the Difference Between Cannabis Moonrocks and Cannabis Caviar?

Cannabis caviar and cannabis moon rocks are pretty much the same thing in many cases. They are just marketed differently. In some instances, though, they do differ from one another. Cannabis caviar consists of top-shelf or high-quality buds that are dipped in a cannabis concentrate such as distillate or other types of cannabis oil. Sometimes they are also rolled in kief. These buds of caviar are typically reserved for smoking in bowls and bongs.

On some occasions, they can be broken up and added to blunts or joints too. Cannabis moon rocks are very similar to cannabis caviar. The big difference is cannabis moonrocks have an extra step that isn’t present with most cannabis caviar. Cannabis moon rocks are soaked in distillate or other cannabis oil and then rolled in kief. The end result of the kief resembles tiny lunar nodules coated in powdery moon dust, hence the name moon rocks.

Cannabis caviar and cannabis moon rocks are typically available at most medical and recreational cannabis dispensaries. Don’t be surprised if the price of cannabis moon rocks or cannabis caviar is a little on the high side. This potent product packs a punch and requires extra steps in its preparation. This means consumers can expect to pay more. In some places, cannabis caviar is for those who indulge in the lifestyles of the rich and famous. However, cannabis caviar doesn’t have to be off the menu for you. You can whip up different varieties of cannabis caviar at home. Instead of buying pre-made cannabis caviar, here are some suggestions for DIY cannabis caviar at home.

  • Cannabis Moonrocks are cannabis buds dipped in distillate or cannabis oil and then rolled in kief.
  • Cannabis Caviar is premium top-shelf cannabis buds soaked in quality cannabis concentrates, sometimes rolled in kief.

Creative Ideas for Homemade Cannabis Moonrocks and Cannabis Caviar

So you want some cannabis caviar but don’t want to break the bank by buying it from the local dispensary. You’re not alone. The good news is you can make weed caviar at home. Chances are, you have everything you need to do this. If not, a trip to your local dispensary will be needed. Here’s a list of supplies you’ll need to make cannabis caviar at home:

Why You Should Get Your Medical Marijuana Card

Veriheal has satisfied millions of patients nationwide by giving them access to these benefits

  • Larger purchase limits

  • Save up to 25% on cannabis purchases
  • Skip the line at the dispensary
  • Top-shelf cannabis: Pick your favorite bud, the best-tasting stuff you can find.
  • Cannabis concentrates: Distillate is the easiest to use, but you can also use other varieties of concentrates by simply melting them in a shot glass.
  • Kief: You’ll want at least a half gram to a gram of kief or more depending on just how much caviar you’re going to make and if you want to turn your caviar into moon rocks.
  • Rolling tray or silicone mat to help evenly distribute kief across buds or place to allow concentrate-soaked caviar nugs to dry
  • (Optional) Hemostats, aka roach clips, to help you manage those sticky buds without wasting concentration and making a mess
  • (Optional) CBD, CBG, or CBN can help take your moon rocks or cannabis caviar to new heights.

Making cannabis caviar is basically taking your favorite nugs and soaking them in concentrates. Concentrates can be melted in a shot glass using a double boiler method or in a few short seconds in the microwave. Terpenes can be added to melted concentrates to keep them from re-solidifying. If cannabis terpenes are unavailable, work quickly after the concentrates are melted, and you should be fine.

To make caviar break your favorite buds up into your desired size. Soak the buds in melted cannabis concentrates using your hemostats. Set your buds off on a silicone mat to dry. Within a day or two, you should be able to put them in a container together but keep in mind they will eventually start sticking to one another again.

To make cannabis moon rocks, complete the same process as you would for making weed caviar, except roll your concentrate-soaked buds in kief. Once they are completely covered in kief, you can pick them up and manage them without them sticking to one another. Moon rocks can be stored in a container together for you to enjoy later, much easier than caviar that doesn’t contain kief.

If you love weed as much as I do, you might want to try these elevated products. I call them active lava bombs because they are absolute fire!

Active Lava Bombs

This is kind of my own little invention. It involves using the Ardent decarboxylation machine. I call them active lava bombs because they are little nugs of activated or decarboxylated cannabis combined with activated/decarbed concentrates. They also use an extra boost of cannabinoids from CBN or CBG. The first step is to take your choice buds and decarb them.

Make sure they are broken up into the size you want to use to make your rocks. Some people like big boulders, and others like tiny pebbles. The choice is yours. Once your buds have been decarbed, set them aside and decarb your favorite cannabis concentrate. When the concentrate is finished, add a drop or two of cannabis terpenes to it to keep it from solidifying or work quickly with it to dip your buds.

For daytime, mix CBG crumble or isolate with kief and roll your concentrate-soaked buds in the mixture until it covers all sticky areas. You can now pick these buds up and handle them. Smoke some right away and set the rest off in a container to enjoy later. Instead of CBG, add CBN to your kief and do the same process for a more relaxing night-time-orientated buzz.
