Tech mogul Elon Musk is no stranger to headlines. In the midst of his increasingly troubling behavior, however, some of Elon’s closest acquaintances and business partners have raised alarm about the billionaire’s declining mental health. According to them, Musk’s recent behavior is connected to his increasing ketamine use.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) was amongst the first publications to report on Elon’s ketamine use. The WSJ article alleged that Elon uses ketamine as an antidepressant. While this report hasn’t officially been acknowledged by Musk or his team — the billionaire’s famously candid Twitter (X now) account all but confirmed it. In a recent post, Elon said:
“Zombifying people with SSRIs for sure happens way too much. From what I’ve seen with friends, ketamine taken occasionally is a better option.”
Elon’s post is not wrong. Recent studies have shown that occasional ketamine use can effectively treat depression and bipolar disorder. Of course, the key word here is OCCASIONAL. Further, ketamine treatments must take place under the care and supervision of a qualified physician.
According to a recent report from investigative journalist Ronan Farrow, however, Elon Musk’s ketamine use has been anything but occasional, let alone supervised. Farrow wrote:

“Associates suggested that Musk’s use has escalated in recent years and that the drug, alongside his isolation and his increasingly embattled relationship with the press, might contribute to his tendency to make chaotic and impulsive statements and decisions.”
Why Elon Musk’s Ketamine Use Matters
Speaking with Amit Anand, a leading ketamine researcher, Farrow asked how irresponsible ketamine usage would affect an individual. Anand said that at higher doses, “You can feel grandiose and like you have special powers or special talents”. This feeling of elevated importance, Anand said, can lead people to make bad decisions at work. “The impact depends on the kind of work. For a librarian, there’s less risk. If you’re a pilot, it can cause big problems,” Anand finished.
Anand’s statement should send shivers down your spine. Because of Elon’s immense wealth and influence in almost every industry in America—and the world, for that matter—his irresponsible ketamine use and the erratic decisions he makes because of it have far-reaching implications. As Farrow’s article covered, Elon now has a hand in nearly every industry. This includes space exploration and renewable energy to transportation, medical science, and even the war in Ukraine.
So, as silly as it may seem to watch Elon’s erratic behavior and how it shapes and bends Twitter/X unfold, remember—this is the same individual with the power to reshape society as we know it on a whim.

Let’s have a real conversation. Every year, when the Fourth of July rolls around, I see the fireworks and flags and hear all the loud talk about freedom. And every year, I find myself sitting here asking the same damn question: Whose freedom are we really celebrating? Because it sure as hell doesn’t feel like…
Over the last decade, there has been considerable discussion about the future of cannabis. Typically, those conversations center around legality, market size, and social and medical impacts, all of which are interesting topics in their own right. But there has been far less discussion about the digital future of cannabis. With more and more of…

When Johaness Gutenberg introduced his printing press in the mid-15th century, he sparked a revolution in the way the masses could spread and consume information. For centuries after, the primary way we shared content was through print media, like books and magazines. But when Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989, that all…
