How To Make Reclaim Edibles

Reclaim edibles are re-purposed leftovers. You see that sticky residue sitting in your dab rig? Take a look, it is there. With a teensy bit of creativity, you can actually transform it into something amazing.

The downside? Probably won’t hit exactly like fresh cannabis and won’t taste great either. However, if for whatever reason you find yourself wanting to give it a second chance, welcome! You are in the right place.

What Is Cannabis Reclaim, and Can It Be Used to Make Edibles?

When you heat up cannabis concentrates, you actually do not inhale it all; some trickle down your rig and build up over time into what we call “reclaim”. That buildup resolidifies, becoming sticky and dark, so you do not think twice before cleaning it out. Well, that residue can be dabbed again, but the sad part is that you probably would not like the taste, because most of the terpenes get lost after the first dab.

Instead, you can use it to make edibles. Those cookies, brownies, gummies, and whatnot? Definitely. You see, the cannabis is already activated, so it is ready for use. You do not need to worry about decarboxylation anymore.

Collect from the rig, melt into any fat (butter, cooking oil), and sieve (optional) to remove any foreign particles. Voila! Your reclaim is ready for use.

How Can You Collect and Clean Reclaim Safely from Your Rig or Device?

You can use the warm water method whereby the warmth loosens reclaim so it flows into a container, which you can separate; or cool (freeze) the rig for a few minutes, so the reclaim can harden and easily fall out. It’s safe because it involves no flammable chemicals, reduces the risk of inhaling residues, and causes minimal damage to glass. You can also scrape with blunt dabs tools if you are a pro

You can use food-grade alcohol to soak and rinse out the reclaim, letting the alcohol evaporate fully in a ventilated area away from flames until you can no longer smell the alcohol.

The third option is to use a reclaim catcher, which is the best option if you plan on re-dabbing. It keeps reclaim separate from your rig, does not require scraping or rinsing, has fewer impurities, and is generally easier.

What Are the Steps to Make Edibles Using Cannabis Reclaim?

If you have been paying attention, you already remember the part about reclaim and decarboxylation, which means you can use it the way it is to continue your recipe.

To make edibles using reclaim, well…you need reclaim. Collect the reclaim from your dab rig, and make sure it is free of water, ash, and alcohol, depending on your collection method.

The next step is to gently heat the reclaim just enough to make it runny, then mix evenly into fats like coconut oil, butter (canna butter), or cooking oil. This is because reclaim binds best to fats. Then stir gently until it fully dissolves and is uniform.

Now, extreme heat can compromise cannabinoids further, so if you are thinking of cooking or baking it in such intense heat, quit thinking about it. If you must cook or bake with it, use it on low heat. It is usually best to add it to no-bake foods such as chocolate and peanut butter snacks.

Finally, it is an edible, although its potency is questionable. Start with very small servings, and wait an hour or two before having more.

Are Reclaim Edibles Safe and Effective Compared to Regular Edibles?

Whether reclaim or not, edibles require caution, and while reclaim edibles can be safe and effective, comparing it to regular edibles is like comparing fresh oil to used cooking oil.

Reclaim edibles are less predictable, more inconsistent, and usually harsher than regular edibles.

Additionally, factors like contamination, impurities, alcohol residue, and experience can influence safety and effectiveness. Regular edibles, on the other hand, are cleaner, tested, and consistent.

In essence, reclaim edibles can be safe if you take proper measures when collecting it from the rig and before the initial dab. However, this doesn’t make it more potent than regular edibles, because you lose so much during that initial dab.

Can a Medical Marijuana Doctor Recommend Safe Dosages for Reclaiming Edibles?

A licensed medical marijuana doctor can recommend safe dosing and ensure you have the right knowledge to use cannabis safely and get the maximum benefits.

A medical cannabis doctor cannot and does not calculate an exact dose for reclaim edibles.

So instead of recommending specifics, medical marijuana doctors will advise users to follow normal edible guidelines: start low, go slow;  wait a while before re-dosing, and track effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is reclaim, and how is it different from regular cannabis oil?

Reclaim is the leftover residue that collects in your dab rig from dabbing cannabis concentrates or oil. Regular cannabis oil, on the other hand, is a fresh and unvaped cannabinoid extract.

Is it safe to eat or cook with cannabis?

It can be safe to cook with cannabis—if you do it with intentionality. Decarboxylate it properly, control your dose, cook at low heat, and follow food and legal safety rules.

Can you use reclaim to make edibles like brownies, gummies, or butter?

Because reclaim is basically already decarboxylated cannabis, it is usually ready to use for making edibles like brownies, gummies, and infusing into butter.

Does reclaim still contain THC after vaporization or dabbing?

Yes, reclaim still contains some THC after dabbing or vaporizing. However, because a lot of it is lost in the initial dab, the potency reduces significantly. This is not a pass to be careless. Treat it like regular edibles and apply caution

How much reclaim should I use when cooking edibles?

There is no fixed amount to use when making reclaim edibles. You are advised, however, to begin with a small amount, mix it into a fat like butter or oil, and dose a small portion first, waiting a couple of hours to assess effects.

Do reclaim edibles have the same potency as fresh cannabis edibles?

Fresh cannabis (flower or extracts) has more cannabinoid content. Reclaim has lower cannabinoid content because much has gone when dabbing. And so, potency will likely differ.

Can a medical marijuana doctor provide guidance on reclaim use and dosage?

A licensed medical marijuana doctor can discuss cannabinoid dosing generally and offer guidance on using reclaim safely by helping you understand risks, effects, and safer approaches. They cannot give you a precise dosage for reclaim edibles.

Is it legal to make reclaim edibles for personal medical use?

In places where medical cannabis is legal, some states may allow home production of edibles for personal medical use, if you have your medical marijuana card and follow specific rules.

Can I apply for a medical marijuana card online through Veriheal before making edibles?

To use or possess cannabis safely, legally, and medically, it is usually necessary to do so. You can apply for a medical marijuana card online through Veriheal and get access to licensed medical marijuana doctors who provide reliable, high-quality service.

How should reclaim edibles be stored for safety and freshness?

Store your reclaimed edibles in cool, dark, airtight containers, such as glass jars with tight lids, and label them properly. Refrigerate them if you’ll eat them within a week, or freeze them for longer storage, usually 1–3 months. Lastly, store out of reach for children to avoid emergencies.
