In today’s economy, going out with friends can be a pricey venture. But you can’t let that stop you from hanging out and making memories. Fortunately, getting together and turning up with compadres doesn’t have to leave you too broke to buy groceries. The solution? Have a party at home. Better yet, make it a stoner party.
As the name implies, a stoner party is all about cannabis and enjoying it with friends. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, and we’re here to show you how to make it happen on a budget.
1.Know the Law
If you don’t live in a 420-friendly state like Colorado or California, throwing a stoner party can be risky. So, before planning your party, confirm that your state permits such gatherings. You can check with a legal resource, like NORML.
Even if cannabis is legal in your state, local laws or your lease agreement might prohibit hosting weed-oriented gatherings, especially indoors. Always double-check to avoid any unwanted trouble.
Lastly, even if cannabis is legal in your state, driving under the influence isn’t. So, encourage your guests to show up in cabs, as they might be too high to drive after the party.
2.Prepare Your Space
Get your space ready for the festivities by clearing the floor and making plenty of room. You don’t want obstacles that might trip up your stoned guests lying around. Also, have beanbags, sofas, and other resting spots set up against the walls for those who want to rest.
Do you live in an apartment? Since it’s a weed party, you don’t want to annoy your neighbors by stinking up the building, so set up air purifiers to keep the air fresh. You could also leave windows open for ventilation, but noises from the party might bother your neighbors.
3.Have Lots of Water and Snacks
Your stoner party guests are bound to get cottonmouth and the munchies at some point. As the host, it’d be unfair to leave your guests parched and hungry, so have lots of water or juice available. No alcoholic drinks, though, as mixing booze and weed can lead to overwhelming effects.
For snacks, you could order enough pizza for everyone or keep things cheap with chips, popcorn, or a home-baked cake. Go for crowd-pleasers that are easy to grab and don’t require much cleanup.
4.Shake Weed
You can’t have a stoner party without cannabis, but since this is a budget party, you can’t splurge on premium flower. Instead, go for quality trim or shake weed, which is bits of flower, leaves, and kief that broke off whole buds. Dispensaries often sell it at lower prices instead of tossing it out. While it’s not the most visually attractive, shake can be highly potent, making it excellent for saving money without sacrificing the high.
In line with being respectful of your neighbors, consider using a bong or vape for your cannabis. They produce less odor than smoking joints, making them a more discreet option for your party.

5.Movie Marathon
Now we get to the fun part – activities. Sure, you could all just vibe, get high, reminisce, and philosophize, but is that enough? Entertain your guests with a movie marathon and stay on theme by showing stoner movies.
Do we have recommendations? Of course, we do! You can’t go wrong with any of the Harold & Kumar movies or classics like Ted and Dude, Where’s My Car? For more ideas, check out our cannabis-friendly movie list.
6.Make Your Own Edibles and Drinks
Some of your guests might not be into smoking or vaping. You don’t want them feeling left out, so let them join you in making cannabis-infused edibles or drinks with the shake cannabis. Brownies are hard to resist, and we have a simple recipe for making scrumptious weed brownies.
Start by decarbing your shake by baking it in the oven at 230°F for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Once that’s done, preheat your oven to 350°F and melt two sticks of butter in a saucepan along with the decarbed weed. In a large bowl, whisk together two eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and the infused butter.
Add one cup of sugar, a quarter cup of cocoa powder, half a cup of flour, a quarter teaspoon of salt, and a quarter teaspoon of baking powder. Stir until everything’s well combined, then pour the batter into a greased and floured 8-inch square pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, and you’ll have enough brownies for about 12 servings.
Alternatively, make cannabis-infused smoothies or lattes with the decarbed shake. However, watch doses to ensure guests who are eating or drinking cannabis don’t have too much. If someone’s already smoking, they should probably skip the cannabis-infused treats, as this can lead to overwhelming effects.
7.Get Your Groove On
No party’s complete without music, and as the host, you have a duty to keep the melodies on theme with stoner songs. You can’t go wrong with classics like Afroman’s Because I Got High and Crazy Rap. Other cannabis-themed tracks that are always welcome at stoner parties include:
Crazy Town – Revolving Door
50 Cent – High All the Time
D12 and Eminem – Purple Hills
Dr. Dre – The Next Episode
Kid Cudi – Day ‘n’ Nite
Lil’ Dicky – Pillow Talking
Gorillaz – Feel Good
But you don’t have to limit yourself to just listening to music. Kick the fun up a notch with some karaoke and sing along to these stoner anthems.
8.Games & Entertainment
Why stop at karaoke when there are other fun activities you and your guests can indulge in? Try stoner-friendly games like Would You Rather, Stoned Pictionary, or Name That Strain to get everyone laughing. Card and board games that everyone can join in on are also a great idea, such as UNO or Cards Against Humanity. If all else fails, whip out the Xbox, PS5, or Nintendo Wii if you have one.
9.Keep Safety In Mind
Your stoner party has to end on a happy note and with good vibes, but that won’t happen if you don’t keep safety in mind while having fun. Follow these safety tips to make sure your party-goers have a good time without any mishaps:
No Mixing: Using weed with alcohol or other drugs to boost the effects may seem like a fun idea, but don’t let your guests do it. Otherwise, you could end up with out-of-control party-goers or someone who needs to visit the hospital.
Fire Safety: Did you know that over 15,000 home fires happen yearly due to indoor smoking? If you don’t want your party adding to that statistic, keep a fire extinguisher close by and make sure guests properly dispose of their blunts and ashes. Use ashtrays, avoid leaving lit items unattended, and never let anyone fall asleep with something burning.
Full Disclosure: Let everyone know how strong your weed-infused treats and nugs are. This helps guests pace themselves and reduces the chances of anyone going overboard. Also, keep an eye out during the party to make sure no one’s having too much. That way, you can step in early and avoid having to care for a guest who’s having a bad high.
Pay Attention: Being high can lower inhibitions, and unfortunately, some guests may try to take advantage of others in that state. As the host, it’s your duty to create a safe environment where everyone feels respected and protected. So, keep an eye out for anyone acting shady, and don’t hesitate to step in if something doesn’t feel right.
Clear Exit: Make sure there’s an obvious, unobstructed path to the door. Whether someone needs fresh air, a rideshare, or just wants to leave quietly, an easy exit keeps things comfortable and safe.
