While most people have chosen not to travel for many months now, times are starting to evolve once again, where people feel better about getting out and about. This means that travel is occurring once again, and for medical cannabis patients, travel can be fun, but unfortunately, many places still have to be avoided due to outdated cannabis laws that would prevent them from utilizing their medicine while on vacation.
Cannabis-Friendly Travel Destinations
Luckily, there are several states that offer reciprocity for medical cannabis patients as well as recreational or retail programs that allow adults from anywhere to purchase cannabis in the state. This, unlike a decade ago, has opened up travel for many medical cannabis patients as well as cannabis consumers that prefer not to risk incarceration due to their love of a plant and traveling. Let’s take a closer look at some of the places where it is legal for you to be rolling stoned.
Washington State – Home to the Only Rainforest in the Lower 48
Washington State was one of the first states in the United States to legalize both medical cannabis and retail cannabis markets. While Washington does not offer reciprocity to medical cannabis patients, anyone over the age of 21 is legally able to purchase cannabis in the state. If you love the thought of the West Coast, I would highly recommend a vacation to the Olympic National Forest. This National Forest spans over 628,000 acres within the Olympic mountain range. The Olympic National Forest is home to the only temperate rainforest in the lower 48 and offers breathtaking views and ecosystems not found anywhere else in the United States. If you happen to take this trip and are a fan of Nirvana, Aberdeen Washington, the hometown of Kurt Cobain is a short distance away and offers some unique memorials to the lead singer. Remember though, national forests are still considered federal property so while you can be rolling stoned, make sure you are rolling without anything in your possession while exploring the forest!
New York – Cityscapes, History, and More
The state of New York has had a medical cannabis program for several years and just recently legalized a retail cannabis market as well. Like Washington State, New York does not offer reciprocity for medical cannabis patients; however, adults over the age of 21 have access to cannabis at dispensaries. New York is home to many different travel destinations. Whether you are a fan of the great outdoors or the city life, there is something in New York for you to see! If you’re a fan of the city, perhaps a trip to the infamous New York City to see things such as Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building, the World Trade Center Memorial, Rockefeller Center, the Statue of Liberty, or one of many other New York City destinations might be just the thing for you. Unlike many states in the United States, New York has also implemented laws that allow cannabis to be consumed anywhere that cigarettes or vaping are permitted.

A New Mexico Vacation
Starting in 2022, there will also be a legally regulated retail cannabis market in the state of New Mexico. New Mexico is also home to a medical cannabis program that offers reciprocity for out-of-state medical cannabis cardholders. If you are a fan of aliens and UFOs, like many cannabis consumers, Roswell is a must-see destination in New Mexico. Aside from alien activity, New Mexico is also home to several fascinating geographical landmarks, including the Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which is home to over a hundred caves that offer fascinating rock formations. New Mexico is also home to White Sands National Park, National Petroglyph Monument, Silver City, and Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.
Destination Oklahoma
If you’ve ever been curious about where East meets West, perhaps a trip to Oklahoma is in order. Oklahoma is home to a diverse landscape ranging from salt flats and desert-like terrain to mountains, hills, farmland, and more. Oklahoma is a medical cannabis state and does not offer a retail cannabis program for adults. However, if you are traveling to Oklahoma and are a medical cannabis patient of another state, you can apply ahead of time for a temporary license which is valid for 30 days. This temporary license allows you to purchase and possess the same quantity of cannabinoid products as patients in the state of Oklahoma. Unknown to many, Oklahoma is home to one of the only places where you can mine for hourglass selenite crystals, and just a short distance away is the Little Sahara State Park featuring sand dunes!

Navigating the laws on traveling with medical marijuana (MMJ) is incredibly confusing with the current global stance on cannabis. In the U.S., some states are okay with you bringing your medicine with you as long as you can prove your patient status, while other states are staunchly against it altogether, leaving MMJ patients in a…
People have been smoking joints for a long time. The first rolling papers surfaced around the early 1500s in Alcoy, Spain. These weren’t like the rolling papers we know today though. To start, these papers were intended for tobacco, not cannabis. They were made of hemp along with other textiles and lacked an adhesive gum…
Cannabis seeds, aka beans, come in a lot of different varieties. On top of countless different strains to choose from, there are regular cannabis seeds, feminized cannabis seeds, auto-flowering cannabis seeds, and ruderalis cannabis seeds. Ruderalis cannabis seeds are the least common out of the group, generally only used by breeders. Regular cannabis seeds produce…
