Back in the day, when it came to cannabis comedies, you pretty much only had Cheech and Chong. Cheech and Chong pioneered an era of cannabis comedy that helped to break down a stigma, or did it? The Cheech and Chong movies led to the making of other iconic stoner comedies. Some of these movies were actually really good, and others, let’s just say you would have to be stoned to enjoy.
Regardless of the quality of the cannabis film in question, one thing is certain. That is that comedies about cannabis are loved by the masses. While these comedies often poke fun at the stoner lifestyle and stereotypical image of what people think a stoner is, they also touch on subject matters that hold real truth. Instead of having an angry viewpoint about it, they just get high and make fun of it.
These Movies Show That Support is at an All-Time High
A great example would be the movie Half Baked. This comedy looks at a group of childhood friends that grew up with one lady in common throughout their lives, Mary Jane. One of the friends gets arrested and thrown in jail for killing a diabetic horse by feeding it a horde of munchies. The friends then have to figure out how to get their buddy out of jail and end up entangled in a police sting to bust a big-time cannabis dealer named Samson. While the movie has extreme comical aspects to it, it also helps bring lightness to a very serious situation. That situation is, of course, cannabis prohibition sucks and needs to end. It doesn’t always turn out with a happy ending like it does most of the time in the movies for people in real life.

Can’t We All Just Get a Bong and Laugh?
It’s easy to get caught up in all of today’s politics and drama surrounding cannabis legalization. One of the things that can cause you to forget is the simple joy of how good cannabis can make you feel. It can uplift one’s demeanor, increasing their mood allowing smiles and laughter or rest and relaxation. These effects usually come accompanied by a spike in your appetite called the munchies. When you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the effects of your high, a great way to do it is to sit back and watch a cannabis-themed comedy. Something about partaking in some good herb and watching something funny is just healing for the soul.
