Blue Diesel (aka “Blue City Diesel” or “New Blue Diesel”) is a hybrid cannabis strain originally produced by Breeder’s Choice. And though the strain leans slightly Indica-dominant, it turned out to be the perfect daytime strain for a relaxed, focused energy.
As a flower lover with naturally high anxiety, I’m on a mission to find the perfect cannabis strain that will help me focus without making me panic. While my journey has mostly centered around trying popular sativas, this week, I experimented with an indica-leaning hybrid.

Blue Diesel is a slightly indica-dominant hybrid marijuana strain bred by crossing indica Blueberry and Sativa-dominant NYC Diesel.
Its cannabinoid makeup is fairly standard, with middle-of-the-road THC levels of 17-23%. The strain typically contains less than 1% CBD.
The strain’s dominant terpene is myrcene, contributing to its musky, diesel essence and calming effects. Other terpenes present in the strain include limonene and caryophyllene, which contribute citrus and peppery aromas and flavors. Together, the three dominant terpenes make for a light berry or cotton candy flavor that leans a little skunky when burned.
Blue Diesel Strain Effects
The Blue Diesel strain produces a tingly, long-lasting body high accompanied by an uplifting head high.

Don’t be intimidated by this fast-acting head high, though: it’s nothing like other shaky, energizing strains. Rather, Blue Diesel induced euphoria, happiness, and giggles—without the couch lock that some hybrids can bring.
Personally, the strain provided me with an energized yet relaxed head high. It wiped away the spiky, anxious thoughts, making room for a sharp, focused mindset. And, enhancing the positive qualities of this strain, I didn’t experience the typical energy crash that I sometimes experience when smoking hybrids. Rather, the strain gave me sustained focus, allowing me to flex my creative muscle without any noise or haze clouding my brain.
Plus, unlike some other hybrid cannabis strains, this one didn’t cause intense munchies. My hunger levels remained unaffected after using this strain, and I didn’t experience any strong junk food cravings.
My experience helped me understand why Blue Diesel is such a popular strain for individuals with ADHD. Additionally, some medical marijuana patients may use this strain to help combat muscle spasms, migraines, and other forms of chronic pain, as the strain carries anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties as well.
Growing Information
Good news for anyone looking to grow Blue Diesel: it does well both indoors and outdoors, and growers can expect a good amount of buds. The plants usually grow to be 4-6 feet tall with a flowering time of 7-8 weeks, producing dense and well-shaped nugs.
But here’s the thing: if you’re expecting the usual green and orange colors of cannabis, Blue Diesel is different. It has blue or purple shades, which not only make it strong but also look pretty.
Final Takeaways
In the end, Blue Diesel turned out to be one of my favorite strains for managing stress and anxiety. It induced happy vibes without inducing overwhelming anxiety. Essentially, Blue Diesel is the perfect daytime strain for hiking with friends, collaborating with a group— and even sitting down to write.
I’d recommend this strain for any cannabis enthusiast with naturally high anxiety levels. Though it has fairly high THC content with a very small amount of CBD to balance, the Blue Diesel strain is everything I love about cannabis: euphoric and energizing with little-to-no couch lock or thought spirals.
