Ask a Budtender: Tips for a Father’s Day Smoke Sesh
by Haley Hansen
You’ve heard of 420, but have you heard of 620? I’m not talking about 6:20 a.m. or 6:20 p.m.; I’m talking about June 20th. 6/20 this year is a special day. On June 20th, all the dads everywhere are celebrated. Father’s Day falls on June 20th, and it just so happens that it is the longest day of the year. I don’t mean that because Dad wants extra pampering, and it just seems to make the day stretch out. I mean that because this year, Father’s Day falls on the same day as the summer solstice. When Father’s Day is the longest day of the year, you might want to make sure you get your dad the right gift. If you have a rad Dad and he likes to partake in a wake and bake or morning, afternoon, and evening seshes, then you might just be in for an extra-long day of relaxed vibes.
This 620, there are a lot of great 420 gifts you can get dad. Of course, the best gift you can get beyond your endless love, a homemade card and a pair of socks or underwear, is the gift of weed. If Dad has plenty of weed, you might want to consider getting him some cool gear to go with his stash. There is an abundance of incredible products out there, from rolling trays to smoking devices and everything in between that could help light up dad’s eyes this Father’s day.
The summer solstice also sets the tone for all the lovely cannabis plants being grown outdoors. There is a lot of confusion surrounding outdoor cannabis compared to indoor-grown cannabis. I hear it all the time. Dispensaries saying, “we’ve got a deal going on this bud because it’s outdoor”. That facepalm emoji runs through my head the minute I hear this. Sometimes I actually live act this emoji out in person. Just because cannabis is grown outdoors doesn’t mean it is of lower quality. I have had some absolutely incredible cannabis that was grown outdoors. Apparently, these people have never made their way over to the west coast of the United States.
The longest day of the year is great for cannabis plants as they soak up the energy of the sun, allowing them to store energy for growth. Of course, with all that sun, they will need the proper mix of rain or water to stay healthy, but without those long days, cannabis, as well as many other plants, wouldn’t be the same. The long hot summer days that make us crave cool dips in the water do the same with our plants too. The hot sun and longer daylight hours mean outdoor growers will have to be sure to keep their plants watered properly. This doesn’t only apply to cannabis plants; it implies to all plants. So don’t forget to water your daisies, marigolds, hibiscus, or other plants. Whatever you do, just don’t ask Dad to do it on June 20th. Unless, of course, you have scored dad some excellent tools and toys for outdoor use.
Did some Dad somewhere pull some strings to make Father’s Day the longest day of the year this year? I guess no one will really know that answer for sure. What we do know is that this Father’s Day, June 20th, 2021, is going to be a long one so make sure that you are prepared and have all the necessary supplies on hand to make this day a great one. Stock up on charcoal, lighter fluid, propane, butane, bug spray, ice, water, snacks, and of course, lots of green. If your dad doesn’t consume cannabis and you do, this might make 620 an extra-long day for you. It’s important to remember that some moms play the role of both mom and dad. So, if you have a kick-ass mom that also plays the role of dad, make sure to give her props this Father’s day as well.

Up until recently, lack of cannabis education meant that people were blissfully unaware of the fact that the plant is not limited to just one strain and, therefore, does not produce just one type of effect.
